U. of Iowa's Mark Weisman finalist for walk-on award

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

University of Iowa senior running back Mark Weisman has been named a finalist for the 2014 Burlsworth Trophy, given to the most outstanding football player in the country that began their career as a walk-on.

Weisman, one of 10 semifinalists for the award, is a 6'4"senior running back from Buffalo Grove, Illinois. He has led the Hawkeyes in rushing the last two seasons and is leading the team through 10 games this year. He has 556 rushing attempts for 2,466 yards and 30 touchdowns in his career at Iowa.

Weisman has a 3.32 grade point average and is majoring in health and human physiology. He's been named academic All-Big Ten in 2012 and 2013 and has been on the University of Iowa Dean's List three times.

Fans can vote at www.burlsworthtrophy.com. Three finalists will be announced Tuesday, Nov. 25. The award will be handed out on Dec. 8.
