OELWEIN (KWWL) -

An Oelwein man faces a weapons charge after sheriff's deputies found a sawed-off shotgun at a property he owns.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office says they went to property owned by 31-year-old James Jelinek in Oelwein on Thursday with the Oelwein Police Department to conduct a property search.

Deputies say they found a 12-gauge shotgun with a 13-inch barrel. Iowa law says a 12-gauge shotgun must have no less than an 18-inch barrel to be legal.

Jelinek is charged with possession of an offensive weapon.
