DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Dubuque Police say that someone is scamming people by claiming they are from the Unity Point Health / Finley Health Foundation and asking for donations.

The Foundation was notified yesterday that someone was using their phone number in a caller ID scam to pass themselves off as the Foundation, police say. They call it "spoofing."

Police say the best way to protect yourself is to never give out your personal information, including credit card numbers and social security numbers, unless you are positive the call is legitimate.

Scammers can deliberately alter the information on the caller ID to appear as someone they aren't, the police say.
