NORTH LIBERTY (KWWL) -

Tom Salm, the North Liberty mayor that died in May, was inducted into the North Liberty Community Hall of Fame.

The award, which was given out on Thursday, recognizes those that demonstrate commitment and sacrifice while serving the North Liberty community.

“Tom stepped into the mayor's office in a time of turmoil in North Liberty,” City Administrator Ryan Heiar said in a written statement.

“Nevertheless, he accepted the challenge with courage and enthusiasm. Tom was measured, worked with others, and lead North Liberty back in the right direction.”

First awarded in 2013, other recipients include Russ Gerdin, founder of Heartland Express, and Natlie Wilkerson, founder of the North Liberty Community Pantry.

Salm died of a heart attack in May, he was 61-years-old.
