DES MOINES (KWWL) -

The NCAA has announced Des Moines will host preliminary round games in the 2016 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

Des Moines was selected as a 1st and 2nd round site for the tournament in March, according to the NCAA.

The games will take place March 17 and 19 at the Wells Fargo Center.

Iowa State will play the role of host, which means it will not be able to play tournament games at that site.

However, it would allow Iowa and/or UNI to play games in Des Moines, if they qualify for the tournament.

This is the first time Des Moines has hosted a men's NCAA tournament game.

It has hosted several NCAA women's tournament games in previous years.
