DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Dubuque Police say they are investigating a shooting that took place early Saturday morning.

Police say the incident happened a little before 2 a.m. at The Mad Hatter, located at 1902 Central Ave. in Dubuque.

Police tell KWWL two people were hurt in the shooting, but the injuries are not life threatening.

Mary Kearney lives near the Mad Hatter. She said she was sleeping early Saturday morning when she thought she heard fireworks.

"I heard the bang, bang or the boom - you know like a firecracker sounds. Then I looked out the window and saw someone standing over there and next thing I know police are just pulling in all over the place," said Kearney.

Kearney said it was her sister that told her it was in fact gun shots.

Dubuque Police said the department has a police presence outside of the bar at the end of the night, but the department also puts officers in several busy bar areas in Dubuque, not just the Mad Hatter location.

No arrests have been made and the incident remains under investigation.
