Gladbrook-Reinbeck pushes past Denver in to class A championship

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Gladbrook-Reinbeck lost starting quarterback Cam Kickbush to an injury, but the Rebels still had enough to knock off Denver 21-8 and advance to the class A championship game.

Kickbush did manage one trip to the endzone, prior to leaving with a broken collarbone. The Rebel senior went around left end on a 12 yard keeper to put G-R up 7-0, the only points of the first half.

That's when Eric Stoakes became the Rebels workhorse. Stakes ran for 251 yards in the game, and extended the Rebels lead to 14-0 with a 12 yard touchdown run in the 3rd quarter.

Denver made it a game late as quarterback Creed Krueger found Michael Sparkman behind the defense on a 38 yard scoring strike. The 2-point conversion pulled the Cyclones back within 6.

Stoakes, however, put it away for the Rebels going nearly untouched on a 43 yard scamper late in the 4th quarter. That touchdown ended a Cinderella run by Denver, a team that made the final 4 despite finishing 3rd in their district.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck will face Logan Magnolia in the state final on Thursday.
