WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Families gathered in Waterloo Thursday night for the Cedar Valley STEM Festival.

Kids got a chance to play with all sorts of cool stuff -- robots, circuits, bottle rockets, even a flight simulator. It's all part of a push to promote STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Math). Organizers said they want to make sure today's children are prepared for future high-tech careers.

"About every job when these kids graduate is going to involve STEM in some way," said Jeff Beneke, with the Governor's STEM Advisory Council. "That's why it's so important to get them started early."

Eleven-year-old Kallista Mohl was there with her family.

"Yeah, it's really cool," she said. "What I've kind of wanted to do is be a teacher, so maybe I could teach them about STEM."
