Parking data breach at the Eastern Iowa Airport

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - If you used your debit or credit card to pay for parking at the Eastern Iowa Airport recently, your information might be at risk.

Travelers who used a credit or debit card at the airport's public parking facilities between Sept. 29 and Oct. 29 need to monitor their bank account very closely because they could be victims of a security breach,

"All we know is that there was data being mined from the server, and we have stopped that," said Heather Wilson, marketing and communications director.

Airport officials don't have the exact number of people who may be at risk, but they tell us they are working with the company their parking lot is contracted to.

"We found out last week about the potential. Then we immediately had our IT team look into it, we isolated the server and when we determined there was a potential for a break then we alerted everyone that needed to be alerted and followed protocol," said Wilson.

They've hired forensic experts to continue looking into how this breach even happened, but they still don't know the extent of information being compromised, if any.

Wilson says the breach is still in the beginning process, but they wanted to alert travelers.

She says it's critical that you watch your bank account for fraudulent activity and report it to your bank first.

Airport leaders ask that you then contact the Airport Public Safety department at 319-731-5722, so they can monitor and keep track of those affected by the breach.

Administrators at the airport say as their investigators continue to look into the breach, more information about it will be released.
