Eastern Iowa vets reflect at Iowa Veterans Museum

WATERLOO (KWWL) - Will Egbert is a veteran who has served with the Iowa National Guard for 12-and-a-half years.

He had the day off work, and he spent it at the Five Sullivan Brothers Veterans Museum in Waterloo, a place he's never been before.

He says the meaning of Veterans Day changed for him after he came back from Baghdad.

"It wasn't really until we got home, and we started having just that realization that we were now one of those people that people looked up to," he said.

Jason Grandon is also part of the Iowa Army National Guard now. But Jason spent three-and-a-half years with the Marines in years' prior.

He took his kids out of school so they could experience Veterans Day.

"The five Sullivan brothers were iconic for our area," he said.

Grandon's sons Callan and Izzah may have not known the Sullivan brothers, but they are thankful for their dad.

And the veterans are thankful for each other.

"Just remembering everything I've seen and experienced with my fellow members from the unit," says Egbert.
