UPDATE: ISU student Tong Shao autopsy completed

Posted: Updated:

The Johnson County Medical Examiner's Office says the autopsy for Tong Shao, the Iowa State student found dead in the trunk of a car in Iowa City in September, is complete -- but no information is being released on it.

Mike Hensch, administrator for the Johnson County Medical Examiner's Office, tells KWWL that while the autopsy has been completed, the Iowa City Police Department has requested that no information be released because the investigation is ongoing.

Shao was reported missing by friends to the Ames Police Department on Sept. 17. They said they last heard from her on Sept. 8, when they received a text message from her saying she was in Iowa City.

The friends told police they waited to report her missing because they though she was headed to Minnesota after her visit to Iowa City.

Police found her body in the trunk of her car on Sept. 26 at the Dolphin Lake Point Enclave.

Xiangnan Li, a University of Iowa student from China, has been identified by police as a person of interest in the case. Investigators believe Li returned to China.
