4-year-old Aidan battles brain tumor

WATERLOO (KWWL) - Courtney Trumbauer and her husband, Patrick have four-year-old triplets: Olivia, Addilyn and Aidan.

But Aidan isn't just Aidan. He is "Super Aidan," an alter ego his family thinks is a perfect fit.

At age two, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and went through 15 months of chemotherapy.

Courtney Trumbauer was devastated at the news.

"It's earth-shattering," she said. "I, personally, fell into this dark hole because I didn't know where to go. Your mission as a mom is to protect your kids and raise them, and I wasn't sure where we were going to go from there."

It was a tough two years, with Trumbauer always at her son's side.

Just a couple of weeks ago, almost two years exactly to the day he was first diagnosed, Aidan's scan came back clear of cancer -- an amazing feeling, two years in the making, for Trumbauer.

Aidan is feeling great and so is his mother. No more lab draws or "pokes" as Aidan and his sisters call it.

"I thank God for everything, because my home could be a little bit sadder and a little bit quieter, but I'll take his tantrums and I will take the sass," Trumbauer said. "I'll take it all and I'll do it all over again if it means that he's healthy and that my family serves a greater purpose and that others look at us and they don't see, 'Oh that poor family.'

"I don't want people to say that, I don't want pity. I want people to be happy for us."
