CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

The streak is over! UNI used a mammoth defensive effort to shock #1 North Dakota State 23-3 ending the nation's longest winning streak at 33 straight.

The Bison and Panthers each had trouble finding the end zone in the early going. UNI finally changed that late in the second quarter. Following a Tim Kilfoy interception and 45 yard return, Brion Carnes went around the left end from 6 yards out scoring the only touchdown of the first half.

In the second half, the Panther's capitalized on another Bison turnover as Michael Schmadeke knocked home a 43 yard field goal for a 10-0 advantage.  North Dakota State countered with 3 points of their own to pull within 7 going in to the 4th quarter.

That's when the Panthers put it away. Schmadeke knocked through 2 more field goals early in the quarter, but it was Darrian Miller that delivered the knock-out blow. Miller busted through the Bison defensive line, rumbling 30 yards for a touchdown for the 23-3 advantage.

Defensively, UNI allowed just 175 yards of total offense.

As for the Panthers, David Johnson gained 132 yards, and became the first Panther in history to rush for over 1,000 yards in 3 seasons.
