North Liberty police in 'hairy situation' for November

Posted: Updated:
NORTH LIBERTY (KWWL) -

North Liberty's police officers have gotten themselves into another hairy situation.

But they're shaving off a portion of their department policy for a good cause.

This November, officers will have a short break from the no-beards in uniform policy for No Shave November, or Movember.

The no-shave movement nationally raises money and awareness for men's health issues. North Liberty officers will make donations the Domestic Violence Intervention Toy Drive.

This is the second year officers have been allowed to show their follicle support.

Still, the policy-suspension isn't without limitations -- officers must keep their growth to a quarter-inch goatee.

And they're inviting the public to bare a little hair with them.

"Residents are encouraged to compliment the officers' facial hair," a department rep wrote.

(No word yet on how -- or if -- that will be enforced.)
