Dubuque County: Snow plowing may take longer in November

DUBUQUE COUNTY (KWWL) -

The Dubuque County roads department is gearing up for another cold winter.

"We've got to have all of our trucks in order and ready for winter," Secondary Roads Supervisor, Chad Danielson said

Danielson said the county has been preparing for the cold weather for the past couple of weeks. He said it's better to be ahead of the cold weather.

"We are bringing in our salt," said Danielson.

Danielson said his biggest concern going into the cold weather in the coming months is shortage of workers. He said two men are currently out for surgery. He said the department is understaffed until after Thanksgiving.

"It's a little more stressful on (the other workers) and people have to understand that it will take them longer sometimes (to plow), but we will get through it," said Danielson.

Danielson said he has talked to the Dubuque County Supervisors about hiring part-time employees to help, but no decision has been made about hiring more employees yet.
