On Tuesday night, the third annual Coaches vs. Cancer Hawkeye tipoff party was held at Carver Hawkeye Arena.  For the McCaffery family it took on a little more special meaning considering what they encountered this year. Iowa Head Coach Fran McCaffery and his wife Margaret have always been strong advocates of raising money for cancer research, but after the major health scare by their son Patrick, the family resolve has become greater.  Patrick had a malignant tumor removed from his thyroid last spring, and coach Fran says he will be forever grateful for the support give to his family.

"So many people stepped up with major sponsorships major gifts." McCaffery said, "Just overwhelming for Margaret and I to see this event grow the way the way it has but again to see from the other side what we are trying to accomplish to make sure people don't die from cancer."

Tuesday night's fundraiser garnered $133,000 for cancer research.
