CORALVILLE (KWWL) -

The third time was not a charm for Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks as she lost once again to Democrat Dave Loebsack in the race for Iowa's Second Congressional District.

Miller-Meeks thanked her supporters and said she will continue to fight for them.

"I know each and every day I was on the campaign trail I worked for you then, and I'll continue to work for you afterward," said Miller-Meeks.

She also talked her family and how grateful she was for their support.

KWWL caught up with her husband, who says this has been a tough campaign for their family.

"It's very hard on the family," said Curt Meeks. "I think people forget that. It's grueling for the candidate but all of the families involved as well. It's a lot of work."

While Miller-Meeks is disappointed that she will not be going to D.C., she did say she was glad to see that Iowa elected its first female senator, Republican Joni Ernst.

Miller-Meeks did not speak to reporters and did not say if she is planning on running for Congress a fourth time, or whether she'll run for another political office at all.
