Waterloo schools to run 'dangerous intruder' drills

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Waterloo Community School District has announced their schools will participate in "dangerous intruder" drills next week.

School officials say students in all buildings will learn about and practice our response plan for a dangerous intruder.

They say the curriculum and drill procedures were developed with input from school counselors, parents, administrators and outside professionals and are age appropriate depending on what grade the students are in.

School staff says the dangerous intruder drills are different from the traditional lock down response practiced in the past. Some safety experts say giving people options against a dangerous intruder increases survival chances.

Schools will be communicating the specifics about the training to parents this week.
