Hawkeyes' Brandon Scherff named Lombardi Award semifinalist

IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Hawkeye senior offensive lineman Brandon Scherff has been named a semifinalist for the 2014 Rotary Lombardi Award.

Scherff, a native of Denison, is one-of-two offensive players among the 12 semifinal candidates.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound left tackle has started all eight games this season for the 6-2 Hawkeyes.

Scherff is the sixth Iowa lineman to be named a semifinalist for the award. Jeff Drost (1986), Mike Devlin (1992), Jared DeVries (1998) and Robert Gallery (2003). Defensive end Adrian Clayborn was a finalist for the award in 2010.

The four finalists will be announced Nov. 17.

The winner will be announced Dec. 10 in Houston.
