WATERLOO (KWWL) -

After months of political ads and campaigning, Election Day 2014 has finally arrived.

The polls opened at 7 a.m. this morning and will be open until 9 p.m. tonight.

Along with many local races, Iowans will be choosing a new U.S. Senator for the first time in more than 30 years. Voters will also decide if current Governor Terry Branstad will be elected to an historic sixth term in office.

The morning did not go without some hiccups. The Telegraph Herald reports some issues at Dubuque County polls like no paper rosters to check-in voters and some names missing from rosters forcing voters to vote provisional ballots.

The Associated Press reports that more than 400,000 Iowans voted early with absentee ballots.

Election officials ask that you check to see where your polling location is so that you don't head to the wrong place.

Stay with KWWL all day for election coverage and all night for the latest results and reaction from the candidates.
