New Hampton survived several big plays and took down Union 26-20 to move on in the Class 2A playoffs.
Union scored on a pair of massive pass plays in the first half as Brady Driscoll and Dylan Bear had connections of 97 and 73 yards that would give the Knights a 14-6 lead midway through the second quarter.
New Hampton, however, struck back before half as Alex Troyna capped a short drive with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Tucker Tenge to pull the Chickasaws within 2 at the halftime break.
In the second half, Troyna scored a quarterback sneak that had been set up by a 49-yard pass completion to Tanner Rentschler. New Hampton took their first lead, 18-14.
The Chickasaws had a chance to put the game away early in the 4th, but the Knight defense stopped four straight plays that began with a 1st-and-goal from the 4-yard line.
That led to a 95-yard drive, capped by a 1-yard Driscoll run, to put the Knights on top 20-18 with 5:18 remaining.
That's when New Hampton embarked on the game-winning drive. Troyna hit Tenge on a 37-yard touchdown strike with 3:06 left. The Chickasaws tacked on the 2-point conversion as they now sit one win away from a trip to the UNI-Dome.
