Solon headed to Manchester for a huge second-round match-up against West Delaware on Monday night.
In the first quarter, Solon had the ball on a 1st-and-15 from the West Delaware 32. Quarterback Brandan Childs was back to pass, and goes over the middle to find a wide open #6 Halston Durr as he gets behind the defender and scores easily to make it 7-0 Spartans.
Moving onto the second quarter, West Delaware had the ball on a 2nd-and-12 on their own 47. #24 Coy Roussell takes it up the middle, cuts it down to the outside down the right side, and then cuts it back inside again on a fantastic 53-yard TD run to make it 7-6, still Solon after a blocked extra point.
Still in the second quarter, the Hawks had the ball again on a 2nd-and-11 on their own 31. Quarterback Brent Lammers goes deep, the ball gets tipped by a Solon defender, but #11 Trent Curley grabs it and is off to the races on another fantastic play by the Hawks to put them up 12-7 after another blocked extra point.
With under 30 seconds to play until halftime, Solon had the ball on a 4th and goal from the 25. Childs finds #1 Jacob Coons and somehow they convert on an unbelievable play as he just crosses the goal line to make it 14-12 Spartans at the half.
West Delaware goes on to win though, 28-14, to advance.
