EVANSDALE (KWWL) -

A 14-year-old has been charged in connection with a fire at Bunger Middle School last month.

Evansdale Fire Chief Kent Smock tells KWWL that the girl was taken into custody and charged with first-degree arson.

Smock says a juvenile court will decide if the girl will be detained or released to her parents.

The fire was reported just after 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22. Fire officials say it started in a girls' bathroom.

There was smoke damage to about half of the building.

More than 400 students were evacuated from the building and sent to Prince of Peace Church to be dismissed for the day.

A different 14-year-old was charged with first-degree arson after a fire that started in a girls' bathroom in the school back in January 2010. That girl admitted to starting the fire with toilet paper and matches.

KWWL does not name minors charged as juveniles.
