BENTON COUNTY (KWWL) - A 12-year-old who fell into a grain wagon in early November and nearly suffocated is expected to make a full recovery.

The unnamed girl was released from the hospital last week, according to Benton County Sheriff Randy Forsyth.

Forsyth said the girl is not expected to have lasting injuries from the farm accident.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office said a 12-year-old girl fell in a grain wagon Sunday afternoon, and is in critical condition.

Deputy Benson said authorities received the call around noon Sunday, just south of Newhall at the intersection of U.S. Highway 30 and 26th Avenue.

Emergency responders had the pull the girl from the wagon after she fell from top of the grain wagon. The grain wagon had more than 600 bushels of corn, trapping the girl and nearly suffocating her.

Officials said the girl's mother and sister were were there at the time of the accident, and were unharmed.

The girl was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.

Deputies are still trying to figure out exactly how the girl fell into the grain bin.
