Marion Fire Department names new assistant deputy fire chief

MARION (KWWL) - A 15-year veteran of the Marion Fire Department is now the assistant deputy fire chief.

Jason Hansen, has been with the Marion Fire Department since 1999, and will officially begin his new duties on Monday, Nov. 3.

Hansen recently served as district chief/fire marshal. He obtained his bachelor's degree in fire science through Columbia Southern University.

“Jason has always met each new challenge with enthusiasm and great determination,” said Deb Krebill, Marion fire chief. “He's a team player and we are fortunate to have him serving the Marion community in this role.”

Hansen and his wife, Kari, make their home in rural Marion with their four children. 

As part of Hansen's new role, He will assist in coordination, administration and supervision of all divisions of the Marion Fire Department including fire prevention and code enforcement, fire suppression, emergency medical services, special operations, training and maintenance. 

Hansen joined the Marion Fire Department as a firefighter, working his way up through the ranks as shift lieutenant, captain/deputy fire marshal and district chief/fire marshal. He became Marion's district chief/fire marshal in 2012.

The Marion Fire Department is a combination department with a total of 54 firefighters, 29 career firefighters and 25 paid-on-call firefighters. 

The Department also provides effective emergency prevention activities such as fire code enforcement, inspections and public education, in conjunction with it's emergency response.
