CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The 9th annual Sleep Out for the Homeless is set for overnight Nov. 8-9 in Cedar Rapids.

The event will be held at Veterans Memorial Stadium from 3 p.m. Nov. 8 until 6 p.m. Nov. 9.

People are invited to participate by sleeping outside in cardboard boxes. Cardboard will be provided. Registration is $10.

In a news release, Don Tyne, director of Linn Co. Veteran Affairs and co-chair of the Sleep Out said, “Our goal is to raise awareness of the problem of homelessness in Linn County and to raise money for the shelters that serve those in need. Even if people can't sleep out, we hope they will stop by and join us for the activities and entertainment. This is a family-friendly event."

Last year's event raised $11,000 for nine local shelters. All donations and registration fees this year will be distributed to 10 Linn County homeless assistance programs.
