Clayton County down to 4 finalists to fill deputy void

CLAYTON COUNTY (KWWL) -

The Clayton County Sheriff says there are now four finalists to hire a new deputy.

In a regular newsletter, Sheriff Mike Tschirgi says the candidate pool started with 18 applicants.  "Of the 18 that applied, 6 applicants passed the testing and made our civil service list. We then conducted a background check and contacted former employers. Last Friday we conducted interviews with the final four candidates."

The sheriff's office has an opening after the resignation of former Chief Deputy Ryan Johnson.  Amd many rumors, Johnson resigned his position as chief deputy in July citing personal reasons.  After remaining with the sheriff's office as a patrol deputy, he later resigned from the department altogether.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly listed the sheriff's office as Allamakee County.
