The Iowa Hawkeye women are ranked 19th in the country in the first Associated press women's college basketball poll.

The Hawks return four starters and 84 percent of their offense from a team that made it to the Big Ten tournament championship game and the second round of the big dance.

All of the starters returning averaged in double figures they include leading scorer Bethany Doolittle top rebounder and play-maker Samantha Logic along with three point specialist Melissa Dixon and Allie Disterhoft coming off a great freshman season.

A tough non-conference schedule along with the addition of Rutgers and Maryland to the Big Ten have the Hawks are preparing for a challenging season.

"Maryland is a team that was in the Final Four last year. And Rutgers, a team that won the postseason WNIT team," said Iowa Head Coach Lisa Bluder... "And returns everybody from that team. Neither one of them will be coming to Carver Hawkeye Arena this year, we'll be traveling to both of those places. So our conference has grown. It's gotten even more competitive than it was in the past."

Iowa hosts St. Ambrose in an exhibition game on Sunday November 9th.
