GILBERTVILLE (KWWL) - Defending state champion Don Bosco opened its title defense with a 64-20 victory over Twin Cedars in the first round of the 8-man playoffs Wednesday night in Gilbertville.

The Dons bolted to a 22-0 lead, following a Spencer Bruess interception of Twin Cedars quarterback Otis Roby on the first play of the game.

On the second play of the game, Dons quarterback Mason Svoboda scored from the 17-yard line -- and the Dons never looked back.

An Austin Carpenter interception set up the Dons' second touchdown of the first quarter.

Mason Svoboda scored again for a 14-0 lead.

Svoboda had two long touchdown runs called back on penalties, but he fired a 54-yard TD pass to Spencer Breuss and one to Caleb Rigdon.

Junior Nick Mangrich also had a 68-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, as the top-ranked and undefeated Dons moved to the second round with the 64-20 victory.
