Three arrested for armed robbery in CR

On Wednesday, Oct. 29, Cedar Rapids police officers arrested three suspects for their involvement in an armed robbery of Big Discount Liquor.

The suspects charged in the robbery are Robert Larry Ray Barlow, age 27, Joshua M. Sandlin, age 36, and Jack Daniels Yoders, age 19.

All of the suspects live in Cedar Rapids.

Big Discount Liquor is located at 5427 Center Point Road NE, and the robbery occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

On Tuesday, two subjects entered the liquor store with guns, demanded money, and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.  


The police department was notified of the armed robbery at 9:13 p.m. 

Witnesses were able to provide a description of the suspects and the suspect vehicle involved in the robbery as a minivan. 

Within 5 minutes a police officer located the minivan in the area of Center Point Road and H Avenue NE. 

The officer attempted to stop the minivan and a pursuit ensued. 


Officers momentarily lost visual of the suspect vehicle during the pursuit, but the minivan was found in the 1800 block alley between 2nd and 3rd Avenue SE. 

No one was in the vehicle at the time, but police officers found two individuals matching the description of the robbery suspects in the 1800 block of 2nd Avenue SE. 

Both subjects were taken into custody and transported to the police station for questioning.


During the investigation, a third suspect was identified, located and apprehended on the southeast side of Cedar Rapids. 


As a result of the investigation, all three suspects have been charged with 1st degree robbery, which is a felony.


Barlow was charged with 1st degree robbery, driving while barred, and 8 counts of attempting to elude.

Sandlin was charged with 1st degree robbery and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Yoders was charged with 1st degree robbery.


All three suspects were arrested and transported to the Linn County Jail.
