Gable Museum Announces 2015 Hall of Fame Class

WATERLOO (KWWL) -  The Dan Gable Wrestling Museum is set to induct 5 new members and one team in to the Glen Brand Hall of Fame.

The 2015 class includes Rich Binek, Mike Mann, Rick Caldwell, Mike Zadick, Fred Cooper, and the 1997 University of Iowa wrestling team.


Binek, a Waterloo West grad was a 1973 national champion for Iowa State. He won a high school title for the Wahawks in 1969.


Another Cyclone, Mike Mann was a 4-time All-American at ISU. Mann, currently the head coach at Marshalltown also won a state title for the Bobcats in 1978.


Former Waverly-Shell Rock head coach Rick Caldwell led the Go-Hawks to 5 tradition state titles in his 12 seasons. Caldwell's 2008 team scored 225 points at the meet, and all-time Iowa record.


Former Hawkeye Mike Zadick was a member of the 2008 Olympic team and a 4-time state champion in Montana. Zadick gained All-American status with the Hawkeyes 3 times (2000-2002).


Cooper led Fort Dodge to 9 state championships between 1927-1941. He also coached 28 individual champs. Cooper died in 1957 at the age of 51.


The 1997 Hawkeye wrestling team crowned 5 national champions and scored 170 points (an all-time NCAA record). That team won the 15th and final National Championship in Dan Gable's legendary career.


A banquet honoring all the inductees will be held May 30, 2015 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Cedar Falls.

    Just hours after landing in Taipei the Iowa baseball team got right down to business, posting a 10-5 win over the Czech National Team in an exhibition contest Thursday afternoon. The Hawkeyes, representing team USA at the World University Games, got a pair of 3-run home runs out of Robert Neustrom to clinch the victory.

    The Missouri Valley Conference exercised an option to keep the men's basketball tournament in Saint Louis through at least 2020. The previous agreement ended in 2018 with a two year to remain at the Scottrade Center. The tournament, known as Arch Madness, will conduct it's 30th straight tournament in Saint Louis in 2020.
