More details have surfaced regarding a Chickasaw County man's arrest, including charges that he kidnapped a woman for four hours and threatened to light her on fire.

The kidnapping arrest of Christopher Bormann, 32, of Ionia stems from an incident reported to have happened on Sept. 8.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Chickasaw County, Bormann held a woman in her garage against her will, and threatened to light her on fire. According to the complaint, the kidnapping happened over approximately four hours.

Bormann is alleged to have poured a flammable solvent on the woman's clothing and lighted a piece of paper. He needed medical attention after accidentally setting himself on fire.

The complaint and affidavit says Bormann repeatedly threatened to kill the woman and her children, and destroyed the woman's phone to prevent her from calling for help.

Bormann's remaining charges are from incidents reported Oct. 23 and 24. Criminal documents say he assaulted the victim while she was sleeping.

The victim reports she woke up to Bormann running in her room, and repeatedly punching her in the back, side and head. She says he also choked her several times, threatened to kill her and her children, and threatened to burn her house down.

An eastern Iowa man has been arrested for third-degree kidnapping and multiple other charges after sheriff's deputies were called to investigate a domestic abuse assault.

Authorities say 32-year-old Christopher Bormann choked someone, and also held a person for hours against their will.

The Chickasaw County Sheriff arrested Bormann on Friday, Oct. 24.

In addition to third-degree kidnapping, Bormann faces charges of domestic abuse assault, harassment, and obstructing emergency communications.

He is also charged with manufacturing marijuana, failure to affix a drug tax stamp, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges stem from an investigation into a domestic abuse assault which led to a search warrant being conducted at Bormann's home in Ionia.

Bormann is being held in the Chickasaw County Jail.

The Chickasaw County Sheriff also arrested 24-year-old Travis Ruttman of Alta Vista on Sunday. Like Bormann, he is charged with domestic abuse assault by knowingly impeding the breathing of another and causing bodily injury, and harassment in the first degree.

It is unclear if the arrests of Ruttman and Bormann are related at this time.
