Des Moines man gets probation after flipping over public piano

Posted: Updated:
MASON CITY (AP) - A 22-year-old Des Moines man has been sentenced for flipping over a public piano in Mason City.

Coltin Schupbach on Monday was given a deferred judgment, two years of probation and ordered to pay more than $1,400 in restitution, the Mason City Globe Gazette says.

Under the deferred judgment, the conviction will be removed from Schupbach's record if he successfully completes probation.

Schupbach had made a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to a felony charge of criminal mischief. Prosecutors dropped a charge of public intoxication in change for Schupbach's plea.

The piano was one of four painted by high school students and placed around Mason City as part of a project they called Tunes for the Town.
