Linn-Mar whips Cedar Rapids Jefferson 42-21

Posted: Updated:

Cedar Rapids Jefferson hasn't been to the playoffs since 2008. Friday night, the J-Hawks needed a win over 6th-ranked Linn-Mar or a Cedar Rapids Kennedy win over Waterloo West to get back there.

The Linn-Mar Lions struck first tonight, as QB Ryan Schmit finds Trevor Noble on 3rd-and-goal. 7-0 Lions.

Jefferson responds on 2nd-and-14. Senior Mason Furnish takes the hand-off and gets a huge hole opened up for him. He's only 5'11 and 146 pounds, but he's fast, and ties the game at 7.

Next series for Jefferson, J-Hawk quarterback Jesse Furrow hit Colton Knox down the sideline. He beats two Lion defenders en route to a 14-7 lead.

Linn-Mar ties the game late in the first half. Ryan Schmit floats a pass over a Jefferson defender into Trevor Noble's hands to tie the game at the half.

Linn-Mar outscores Jefferson 28-7 in the second half for the 42-21 victory.

Linn-Mar finishes the season unbeaten in district play, and 8-1 overall.
