In Class 4A District 7, you had two teams -- Iowa City West and Pleasant Valley - with the same conference record at 3-0. They also had the same overall record of 5-3.
Friday night, a district title lay in the balance.
The Trojans hoped for a strong finish to their regular season, and they would start things off with a little luck.
West quarterback Aaron Bliel throws it up and it gets tipped, but it lands in the hands of Trojan receiver Oliver Martin. Six points for the Trojans.
The PAT would also be good.
The Spartans would answer. QB Chase Kipper hits Kevin Stewart near the end zone.
Stewart would reach for the goal line, but he had already stepped out of bounds. No worries, as Kipper would keep it and go straight up the gut. With the extra point, it was tied at 7.
In the second quarter the Trojans would keep it on the ground. Yeshuwa Hicks takes the hand-off and rumbles into the end zone from 10 yards out. The extra point would be good, and West High would take the lead going into halftime.
However, the Trojans would run out of gas in the second half. The Spartans of Pleasant Valley mounted a comeback to take the district crown.
Pleasant Valley 38, Iowa City West 24.
