NBA head coach believes Cedar Rapids can support D' League team

Five days ago a sellout crowd at the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids watched the Minnesota Timberwolves play the Milwaukee Bucks in an NBA preseason game.

T-Wolves head coach Flip Saunders coached in the minor league Continental Basketball Association back in the late eighties and early 90's when the Cedar Rapids Silver Bullets was a part of that league.

Saunders says Cedar Rapids was a great market for minor league basketball and he believes an NBA Developmental league team can make it in Cedar Rapids.

"Now you have some local teams with the hybrid situations where the staff, coaches are being paid for by the NBA.." Saunders said, "and gives them a better opportunity to make money and survive and the more money they make they use to promote and draw people into the arena. I believe right now its advantage for smaller markets like Cedar Rapids to survive and not fold because they can't make it financially."

More than 6800 fans attended the Bucks/T-Wolves preseason game in Cedar Rapids. Only 6100 fans were at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee on Wednesday night to watch these same two teams play another preseason game.
