DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Iowa's unemployment increased slightly from August to September, jumping from 4.5 to 4.6 percent.

One year ago the state's jobless rate was at 4.5 percent.

Those numbers are still lower than the national employment rate, which dropped in September to 5.9 percent from 6.1 percent in August.

“Iowa's nonfarm employment reached an all-time high again in September,” said Director of Iowa Workforce Development Teresa Wahlert. “Global uncertainty has started to affect new orders and employment in Iowa's manufacturing sector. Fortunately, employment in construction, health care, and finance have been thriving and at or near record levels.”

Overall, the number of unemployed Iowans increased to 77,900 in September from 76,500 in August.
