DELAWARE COUNTY (KWWL) -

Police say a Delhi man was arrested after a high-speed chase with law enforcement on Highway 20 that took him through several back roads and even a cornfield.

Dyersville Police say an officer attempted to stop 40-year-old Jared Billings' SUV on Monday just before noon.

The officer says the first attempt to stop the vehicle was at mile marker 295 on Highway 20 westbound.

Police say Billings stopped his SUV, but then sped off as the officer approached.

The officer says the speeding SUV was going more than 80 miles per hour as Billings tried to get away.

The Iowa State Patrol and Delaware County joined the officer in pursuing the vehicle.

Officials say Billings even drove through a cornfield at one point, damaging the crop still in the field.

Police say the vehicle finally stopped at a residence just south of Delhi. That's when Billings was arrested and taken to the Delaware County Jail.

Billings is charged with driving while revoked, no insurance, registration violation, interference with official acts, OWI, felony eluding, stop sign violation, open container and second-degree criminal mischief.
