Traffic and parking changes announced for Michelle Obama visit

The City of Iowa City and the University of Iowa have announced traffic and parking changes that will take place for First Lady Michelle Obama's visit on Tuesday.

The changes are expected to be in effect between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Here are the changes announced:

Market Street will be closed west of Clinton Street. Madison Street will be closed north of Jefferson Street.

The City's North Shuttle transit route will not service stops #7454 and #7455 while the above streets are closed.

Parking is available in City parking ramps for those attending the event. Parking fees will be charged, but the first hour will be free.

The University of Iowa will have entry and exit restrictions in place for Lots 8, 18, North Campus Ramp, and IMU Ramp.

Employees with Lot 8, 18, 20 and 60 parking permits will be allowed to park in the Hancher Commuter parking lot on Tuesday.

The First Lady will be in Iowa City on Tuesday for a Bruce Braley campaign event at the University of Iowa.

It will be held in the Main Lounge at the Iowa Memorial Union located at 125 North Madison Street. Doors for the event open at 10 a.m.
