Hilton Madness draws 8,000 plus to Ames

A sweet 16 run certainly has the Iowa State faithful excited about the future. That was evident on Saturday afternoon when more than 8,000 fans came to Hilton Coliseum for the first ever Hillton Madness event.

With the regular season opener nearly 4 weeks away the Cyclone Men's and Women's team gave the fans a taste of the upcoming season. Junior guard Kourtlin Jackson won the featured dunk contest leaping over walk-on and former Waverly-Shell Rock stand-out Daniel Stensland for the slam. In the 3-point contest, Brynn Williamson from the women's team took down men's sharpshooter Naz Long.

Fred Hoiberg's men's team enters the upcoming season at #14 in the coaches' poll, and he called the big crowd a sign that things are going well in Ames.

"It was unbelievable here," said Hoiberg, "To have this type of turn-out just shows what's going on overall in the athletic department."

"The Cyclone fans are the greatest," added junior Georges Niang, "For them to pour in here just to see us run around and shoot the ball a little bit, that just shows what type of fans we have."

Iowa State opens exhibition play hosting Viterbo on November 7. The regular season begins with a home game against Oakland on November14.
