Cedar Rapids man William Yancey still missing, wanted by police

Posted: Updated:

Cedar Rapids Police are still looking for a wanted man wanted for a hit-and-run crash and several outstanding warrants.

Police say 39-year-old William Yancey was involved in a hit-and-run crash around 9:20 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of J St. SW and 33rd Ave. SW in Cedar Rapids.

They say before that hit-and-run, law enforcement officers saw Yancey driving a stolen 2005 Dodge Stratus on 33rd Ave SW at a high rate of speed.

They say a short time later, Yancey hit another vehicle, flipped, landed on its wheels, then went one block before losing control of the vehicle.

They say Yancey then ran off. Police say they then set up a perimeter to look for Yancey.

They say around 1 p.m., someone in the 100 block of 33rd St. SW reported the suspect was in their house.

Police believe Yancey entered through an unlocked door, hid inside, then asked for the residents to take him to get medical help.

They say Yancey then ran from the house and is still on the loose.

Police say while Yancey did not show a weapon or threaten anyone, he should be considered armed and dangerous.

They say he has four warrants from different agencies, including probation violation, assault with injury and theft charges.

He was last seen around Clover Drive and Outlook Drive SW.

Police say he was shirtless and wearing long pants, and may have injuries from the hit-and-run crash.

Yancey is described as 5-foot-10-inches tall, weighing around 200 pounds, with long brown hair and blue eyes.

If you've seen him, call police.
