Volunteers needed for riverbank clean-ups

Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) - An Iowa City riverbank clean-up is taking place Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. The next clean-up is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 26, also beginning at noon.

Participants will work along the trail and east bank of the Iowa River to remove invasive plant species, woody debris and trash.

Volunteers are still needed. Anyone wanting to volunteer under the age of 18 must have a parent sign a consent form the day of the clean-up.

To sign up, visit www.facebook.com/iowa.city.stormwater.volunteers and click on the "Events" tab. On the actual day of the event, volunteers should once again check the Facebook page to verify that the clean-up is still being held as scheduled.

Participants will meet in the Napoleon Park parking lot at 3800 Napoleon Lane to sign in and get assignments. Volunteers should wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Hats are also recommended. The City will provide tools, gloves and drinking water.
