UPDATE: Waterloo Police investigate Jazzmine Rembert shooting

WATERLOO (KWWL) - Waterloo Police confirm a teenage girl died Sunday morning in a shooting, but aren't yet saying how it happened.

Officers responded to 520 Elm St. in Waterloo just before 2 a.m. Sunday.

There, they found 17-year-old Jazzmine Rembert in a basement area of the home. Rembert appeared to have a gunshot wound to the head and was unresponsive.

Waterloo Fire determined Rembert was dead at the scene.

During the investigation, police took 18-year-old Quaderious Spates into custody.

Spates has been booked at the Black Hawk County Jail on charges of possession of a weapon by a felon and trafficking stolen weapons.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed by the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny on Monday, Oct. 20.

Police say this is an ongoing investigation.
