The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight will depart Tuesday, Oct. 21 from Cedar Rapids for its 18th flight to Washington, DC.
The flight is sponsored by the employees of Quaker, along with matching funds from their parent company, PepsiCo. This is the third flight to be sponsored by Quaker.
82 veterans plus their guardians will be on the flight, 19 of which are veterans of World War II. The group is scheduled to leave at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
In addition to seeing the World War II memorial, veterans will visit the Korean and Vietnam memorials, the Marine Corps War Memorial, the Air Force Memorial and the FDR Memorial. One of the stops will be at Arlington National Cemetery, where they will participate in a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
The group is expected to return to the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. The community is invited to welcome the veterans home.
Leslie Hospitality owner Edwin Leslie says he doesn't have anything to hide, and to prove it he invited the public to view all of the documents, emails, agreements, and financial statements related to the deal at a public meeting this morning.
