Iowa City Police respond to multiple robberies

IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Iowa City Police responded to several armed robberies early Saturday morning.

The first incident was reported just after midnight at 1225 S. Gilbert St. The second report came in just before 1 a.m. at the intersection of Bowery St. and Lucas St., while police received the third report around 1:45 a.m. at the Wal-Mart located at 919 Highway 1 West.

Each report included suspect information of multiple black males in a dark car. Officers located and stopped a vehicle matching that description in the 400 block of E. Burlington St. a short time after the last reported robbery. Several items that had been stolen in the robberies were recovered from within the vehicle and victims of the robberies positively identified some occupants as being involved.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested 25-year-old Lamont Monroe of Iowa City, 20-year-old Brandon Monroe of Iowa City, 23-year-old Shamontierre Johnson of Chicago as well as an unnamed juvenile. All four have been charged with first degree robbery.
