WATERLOO (KWWL) -

In 4A District 5 tonight, seventh-ranked Linn-Mar was fresh off its big win over Cedar Falls last week, and paying a visit to Waterloo West.

The Lions are unbeaten in district play, while the Wahawks have won two in a row and could have moved into a tie for first with an upset tonight.

The Wahawk crowd was fired up tonight as West High jumps to an early 7-0 lead.

Linn-Mar comes right back. Lion quarterback Ryan Schmidt on the read option finds a crease and he is gone -- 50 yards for the tying touchdown, making it 7-7 midway through the first quarter.

Linn-Mar takes the lead late in the first. Schmidt fires a 16-yard touchdown pass to the speedy Perrion Scott to give the Lions a 14-7 lead.

But the Wahawks come back. In the second quarter, West High tailback John Draine had a great run down to the Linn-Mar half-yard line, and West High quarterback Devon Moore dives in for the score to tie the game at 14.

And the Wahawk fans come back to life. But before the cheering died down, Linn-Mar is back at it.

Ryan Schmidt scores from three yards out to give the Lions a 21-14 lead, and then the Linn-Mar defense takes over.

Linn-Mar senior Trevor Noble steps in front of Jin Kali Burkett to pick off a Devon Moore pass, and Noble is gone -- a 52-yard pick-six. Linn-Mar takes a 28-14 lead.

And the Lions roar by Waterloo West 63-28.
