NEW HAMPTON (KWWL) -
An eastern Iowa deputy was arrested earlier this month after police say he got drunk, tried to commit sexual assault on a sheriff's dispatcher who drove him home and assaulted another sheriff's dispatcher who attempted to stop him.
Jeff Athey, a deputy with the Chickasaw County Sheriff's Office, was arrested Oct. 5 and charged with serious assault with injuries against a dispatcher from the same sheriff's office.
On Oct. 12, Athey was also charged with intent to commit sexual assault against another Chickasaw County Sheriff's Office dispatcher that occurred on the same night.
According to the New Hampton Police Department, Athey was being driven home from the New Hampton Country Club by a Chickasaw County Sheriff's Office dispatcher due to being too intoxicated to drive on Oct. 4 just after 11 p.m.
The driver reported to police that Athey had dropped his pants and underwear "several times" at the event at the Country Club before being driven home.
While in the car being driven home, Athey grabbed the dispatcher's breasts "multiple times" and grabbed her groin over her clothing, even though the driver told him to stop each time, according to police.
Once they arrived at his residence, Athey again exposed his genitals "multiple times," grabbed the dispatcher and attempted to pull her into his bed.
At that time, another police dispatcher on scene tried to stop Athey from sexually assaulting the first dispatcher. Athey then placed the second dispatcher in a choke hold and struck him in the face, according to police.
The New Hampton Police Department requested a no-contact order be placed against Athey for the protection of both victims on Oct. 12. It's unclear if that order was issued.
The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations is also investigating.
