A Mason City man is dead after an accident in Bremer County Friday morning.

The Bremer County Sheriff's Office was called to Highway 188 and Dakota Avenue, east of Plainfield, for a crash involving a semi and a car.

Deputies say a car driven by 16-year-old Nicole Manross of Waverly collided with a semi hauling a tanker trailer driven by 37-year-old James Ruehlow of Mason City.

They say the truck rolled into a ditch and came to rest on its top. Manross wasn't injured, but Ruehlow was pronounced dead at the scene.

Highway 188 was closed for about four hours. Diesel fuel did spill into the road ditch.

The accident remains under investigation, and charges are pending.

Ruehlow's body was taken to the State Medical Examiner's lab in Ankeny for an autopsy. The cause of death is not known.
