IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Volunteers are needed to clean up the Iowa River, the riverbank and the Iowa River Trail in Iowa City.

The city is holding two cleanup events in October. The events -- on Sunday, Oct. 19 and Sunday, Oct. 26 -- will be held from noon to 3 p.m.

Iowa City officials says no experience is necessary.

Volunteers will work along the trail and east bank of the Iowa River to remove invasive plant species, woody debris and trash.

Volunteers can sign up at www.facebook.com/iowa.city.stormwater.volunteers. Rain delays will also be posted on the Facebook page.

Participants are asked to meet in the Napoleon Park parking lot at 3800 Napoleon Lane in Iowa City to sign in and get assignments.

Organizers are asking volunteers to wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, closed-toe shoes and a hat. The city will provide tools, gloves and drinking water.
