WATERLOO (KWWL) -
Midwives have always been an alternative for deliveries, but recently more women are choosing them over doctors for child birth. They specialize in childbirth, postpartum, and an overall woman's health care.
"I chose a midwife for the reason of knowing that she would have expertise outside of just the birthing experience," new mom Carrie Eischeid said. "I was able to contact her with any other questions, whether it was what kind of tea I could drink to what kind of supplements I could take."
"As long as we are patient, life takes its course, and we know that the body can do what it's meant to do and labor can be a beautiful thing," said Covenant midwife Jaclyn Roman.
A common misconception is that midwives only perform at-home births, but 95 percent of births actually occur in hospitals.
Midwives are there every step of the pregnancy offering care and support.
"Even though she was busy and everything, she was very tentative to my needs and what I wanted to experience in my birth and everything," Eischeid said.
